New president. New precedent?

Dear Olmert,

So we will have a new president! In light of all the bad news lately, this is especially good news. But I read now an article in Haaretz entitled: "PM pushes bill for open ballot in bid to back Peres for president". And I wonder why does the PM want to involve himself in these politics? Is there not policy that beckons your involvement? And if not, why not?

In maneuvering to decide a new president, are you not setting a new precedent? Don't you want to create new policy?
