On this Day Sixty Years Ago...

Dear Olmert,

On this day 60 years ago, the State of Israel was founded (See video). On that day David Ben Gurion declared:
We extend a hand of peace good neighborliness to all the neighboring states and their friends and call them to paratnership and mustual assistance with the Hebrew, independ nation in its land. The State of Israel is ready to do its part in the joint effort for the advancement of the entire Middle East.
Ben Gurion was the first Prime Minister of Israel. You are our Prime Minister now. And I ask: What now?

Where is that hand of peace? Where is the vision for the advancement of the entire Middle East? And where is everything in between?

President George W. Bush is in Israel today. He is here to celebrate our 60th anniversary. Are we celebrating the past or the future? Wha future do we have celebrate? Peace is possible. Will you celebrate this?

On this day 60 years ago, Devid Ben Gurion declared:
מדינת ישראל תהא פתוחה לעליה יהודית ולקיבוץ גלויות; תשקוד על פיתוח הארץ לטובת כל תושביה; תהא מושתתה על יסודות החירות, הצדק והשלום לאור חזונם של נביאי ישראל; תקיים שויון זכויות חברתי ומדיני גמור לכל אזרחיה בלי הבדל דת, גזע ומין.
The State of Israel will be open to Jewish Aliya and inganthering and will focus on developing the land for the benefit of all its inhabitants, will be rooted in the foundations of freedom, justice and peace according to the vision of the prophets of Israel. There will be social equality for all citizens without discrimination of religion, race or gender.

What will be? What are we celebrating today? What will we celebrate in sixty years?
