King Abdullah

Dear Olmert,

According to the Jerusalem Post you made a "surprise visit to Jordan"! It was not was a surprise to you. You planned the trip. This was not a surpise to the King. He invited you. It is a surprise to us. The people of Israel.

Now, let me first say, this is a pleasant surprise. Meeting an Arab leader abroad is a positive development in a region where Israeli leaders rarely break the ice with Arabs. The trouble I am recognizing is in the surprise. I think this kind of visit should not be a surprise! What I mean is that we expect this from you. We expect you to break the ice.

If you will communicate with your people about your hopes, your dreams, you goals and intents, we won't be surprised! Not that I mind being surprised. Surprise us positively.
