Public Support...

Dear Olmert,

I have to say that I did a double-take this morning when I saw the Ma'ariv headline: "The contacts with the Palestinians will be renewed soon: Negotiations on the Permanent Settlement". I was more than pleasantly surprised.

Your photograph, along with that of the Palestinians' President, accompanied the headline, and I was fiercely proud, of my prime minister.

Now, where did you get the courage? I understand that breakthroughs have not happened until now and associate this with a lack of support. Where did you get the courage now? What has changed? Well, until I have an answer to these questions, let me tell what needs to change... The public must begin to support peace initiatives of its leadership.

I found an article in the Ynetnews.com Soapbox titled: "Will Olmert go home?"... And I thought this title reflects the cynicsm that can be heard in public. If we will have breakthroughs for peace, we will need more than courageous leadership. We will need courageous publics pushing peace forward.
